Rosh Hashana Thought

"Slaughter your son; your only son." The words that echo through time immemorial. The commandment to kill his dearest, his beloved, his future. The commandment to trust that the Divine will was to destroy everything he had devoted his life to.

Heaven stood still on that unearthly day. The cry ascends the Heaven. "Hineni." There he stood, staunchly committed to the deed. Maintaining a commitment of mind-blowing emotional stamina, a power of convinction and utmost love. A trial of immeasurable proportions overcome. A triumph to inspire the generations. Vayishlach es yado, as he raised his hand the celestial angels beheld his feat. With this test G-d acknowledged "ki yirei Elokim atah."

When we struggle with our own daily battles, ours is a struggle no less momentous than the awesome challenge of Avraham Avinu. And while we forget and run through the day, we must remember that at our moment of challenge, Heaven stands still just as it did on that awe-filled day.
